Eagles Teams Grand Final Bound
1st Grade Campbelltown Eagles 40 def Oakdale Workers 32
On Sunday the Campbelltown Eagles travelled to Moss Vale to take on the Oakdale workers in the Semi final clash for the first spot in the Group 6 Grand Final, The Eagles came out firing and put early points on the Oakdale side, Brad Hopkins was first try scorer for the Eagles and Stephen Harding Converted to go to a 6-0 lead at the 6 minute mark in the game, 5 minutes later Craig Moustakas scored in the corner and Harding missed the conversion to go 10 nil led, the onslaught continued and the Eagles where in again when Stephen Harding scored off a short ball from Sam Hoare to go further in the lead 16-0, Oakdale hit back from a brilliant set play scoring out wide to get it back 16-4, The Eagles through Brad Hopkins scored to get his second for the game and looked like they were going in with a commanding lead at half time 22-4, but Oakdale stepped up the game and scored 2 tries just before half time to get back in the game, 22-16 at half time.
The second half was a thriller, the Eagles through Chris Standing scored in the corner and the Eagles lead 26-16, Oakdale kept coming at the Eagles and hit back again with a try 26-22, the Eagles returned to a safe lead when Michael Stevens bust a few Oakdale defenders to cross the line to go to 32-22, and then the Oakdale fight back started, 2 tries in concession and a conversion seen Oakdale level up at 32 all with 8 minutes remaining, The Eagles got a penalty goal from stephen Harding and was hanging on to a 2 point lead at 34-32, but Sam Hoare with 5 minutes on the clock put Lale Neemia through a hole and front rower Tom Morrison backed up to score the match winner and when Harding converted the Eagles made history to be the first Campbelltown 1st Grade team in the Group 6 Grand Final since Campbelltown City Kangaroos in 1983, Best for the Eagles were Brad Hopkins, Sam Hoare and Jarryd Eggleton with the Man of the Match going to captain John Da-Silva.
Reserve Grade Campbelltown Eagles 28 def Mittagong Lions 12
Reserve Grade fought of a gallantry effort from the young Mittagong Lions to secure their 3rd consecutive Reserve Grade Grand Final place. Mittagong hit the lead at 12-10 in the second half which stepped the Eagles into gear running in three late tries to run out winners 28-12. Tries to the Eagles were from Mark Douglas, Jimmy Laulilli, Mathew Gowman and 2 tries to Theo Leato, Mathew Gowman kicked 4 from 5, best for the Eagles were Ben Janskowski, Josh Slater, Ravi Prakash and the Man of the Match went to Nathan Thorson.
3rd Grade Warragamba Wombats 28 def Campbelltown Eagles 20
On Behalf of the Campbelltown Eagles RLFC we would like to congratulate and thank Coach Gary Potts and his team for their efforts on a great season. Gary will not be coaching in our club for 2012 as Gary will be running for council and we wish him all the best for the future, he has mentored many players in our club, he will help our club in some sort of capacity and there will be an open door if you wish to return to any coaching role within our club, Thank you Gary.
